Lift modernisation in a Norwegian office building

As a designer and manufacturer of complete lift systems, IMEM also offers the tailor-made modernisation of existing lifts. A good example is a project that we undertook for our most important client in Norway, a well-established company with a major role in their lift modernisation market.

This project, in an emblematic modern office building, involved refurbishing an existing lift system and converting it to duplex operation by adding a second lift, our machine-roomless Silens Pro Vanguard II, with eight stops, a panoramic car and the entire lift shaft open to view. The modernised lift serves 13 stops, with a 1000Kg/13-passenger load capacity, two entrances at 180º and a speed of 1.6m/s.

Key aspects of the modernisation process

Installation of a gearless drive unit & our car-to-landing Direct Approach System with LIMAX positioning, while retaining the original car frame with a 1:1 roping ratio.

  • Detachable bedplate custom-made for the machine room, with no need to remove the concrete piers.
  • Duplex control system that manages the floors served only by one lift.
  • Customised car button-panels with Smartech display and landing button-panels customised with the client’s logo.
  • Overspeed governor and hydraulic shock absorbers.
  • New car and landing doors.

All the components supplied are in compliance with the EN 81.20/50 standard and the push-button panels and signage were adapted to comply with EN 81.70.

We also supplied our client with all the documentation relevant to the project, the plans and documentation related to the installation of the control system, and all the accessories required during the installation and finishing processes.
